Ocean’s Horizon in Scarborough is a vacation rental owned and operated by Torsten Unger and Martin Richter.
-
Ocean’s Horizon is a self-catering rental, i.e., guests will need to provide their own general household supplies. However, household necessities such as soap, toilet paper, refuse bags and dishwashing liquid are stocked prior to the arrival of guests. Should these supplies run out during the rental period, the guests will be responsible for restocking the supply according to their own needs.
-
The property will be cleaned, and the beds made up with fresh linens prior to the arrival of guests. Likewise, the bathrooms will be furnished with clean towels and bathmats.
-
The maximum number of guests permitted is six. Unfortunately, this number can under no circumstances be exceeded.
-
The property may not be used for any functions, events or parties and excessive noise cannot be tolerated, as the vacation rental is in a quiet residential area.
-
Ocean’s Horizon is a non-smoking house, which also includes the veranda and other outdoor areas belonging to the house.
-
Beach towels are provided with the rental as well as beach chairs and a parasol. Hairdryers are also available for use of guests.
-
Ocean’s Horizon does not ask for a security deposit as we prefer to work on an honesty basis. Should any minor items be damaged or broken, we ask that guests replace these of their own accord. Should there be any major damage to the property, please contact us immediately so that any repairs/replacement(s) can be discussed.
-
The property is not suited for young children (under 12) as there is a risk of steep falls from the veranda and from the staircase in the house. We cannot accept liability for any loss, damage or injury incurred by a guest or by any visitor for whatever reason while on the property. This includes liability from our alleged negligence, including gross negligence. Therefore, it is recommended that guests conclude travel or other applicable insurance prior to their stay.

Scarborough is an eco-village where encroachment on the natural environment is discouraged. Ocean’s Horizon intentionally does not have an air-conditioning system. Instead, the house was designed to optimise natural ventilation. When doors and windows are open, fresh air ventilates the house. At nights the house is never uncomfortably hot, due to the cooling effect of the sea. In the afternoon when the sun shines in, it is possible to sleep comfortably with the main bedroom sliding doors open and the plantation shutters fixed in the locked position but allowing for fresh air to circulate.
-
Due to the remoteness of the village, mobile phone reception is weak and erratic. However, Ocean’s Horizon is equipped with a strong and stable Wi-Fi connection (fibre optic).
-
From time to time, the South African government implements load shedding (energy supply management measures), which may lead to electricity outages of two and a half hours at a time, once or more times a day. However, the house is equipped with a solar power system, which means that the energy supply is essentially guaranteed even in the event of electricity outages. Nevertheless, the use of electricity-intensive appliances such as the washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer, underfloor heating, and hot water boiler may be limited during outage periods.
-
In the case of South African residents having made a reservation, they will be requested to provide copies of FICA documents prior to check-in. This includes an identity document and rates certificate with proof of address or bank statement, both less than three months old. The guest in whose name the reservation has been made on this platform must match the person whose name and likeness appear on the FICA documents. This rule does not apply to non-South African residents.
